Covanta Energy, Tartech partner to recycle ash monofills metals

CTBR Staff Writer Published 12 September 2012

Waste management and renewable energy company Covanta Energy and Germany-based Tartech eco industries have signed a new joint venture agreement to launch Covanta Tartech for the recovery and recycling of metals from Energy-from-Waste ash monofills in North America.

Covanta Tartech will implement Tartech's proprietary technology to recover metals remaining in Energy-from-Waste facility ash deposited in monofills. The technology enables the recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous material for recycling.

Covanta Energy chief operating officer Seth Myones said that the company partnered with Tartech after considering various options to recover more metal for recycling from operations.

"Their breakthrough technology, combined with Covanta's know-how will deliver a high quality metal product that can now be recycled instead of being lost in a monofill," Myones said.

Tartech CEO Alexander Kalckreuth said, "We are excited about this joint venture and confident that we will add significant value for any ash monofill owner that chooses to work with us."
